Research Debrief Session and 19th Conference on Survey in Turkey in 2008

In 2008, Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology (JIAA), the Middle Eastern Culture Center in Japan (MECCJ) conducted the 23rd excavation research season at Kaman-Kalehöyük (29th June to 20th September), preliminary research at Yassıhöyük (22nd September to 30th September) and preliminary research at Büklükale (21st September to 30th October). At Kaman-Kalehöyük, we mainly researched the Iron Age layers, in particular Stratum IIc belonging to the 8th century B.C. At Yassıhöyük, we conducted a magnetic survey and aerial photography in preparation for beginning excavation research in 2009. At Büklükale, where a number of artifacts belonging to the 2nd millennium B.C. were collected during general surveys in 1991 and 2006, we conducted magnetic survey, topographic survey and aerial photography to learn more about the site. JIAA will present all of these research results.

During the conference, PD Dr. Felix Pirson, director of the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul and leader of the Pergamon excavation team, will give a lecture on "The Hellenistic Metropolis Pergamon and Its Port Elaia: Current Status of Research by the German Archaeological Institute." Pergamon is an important site in western Anatolia along the coast of Aegean Sea. This lecture will be given in German or English with Japanese simultaneous translation.

We look forward to meeting you at the conference.
